Fashion 1960s

In the 1960s when the teenage girls went to school they would wear skirts, over the course of the decade, the hemlines would shorten a little, a very little to just above the knee.
There were a lot of different trends in the 1960s. In the middle of the decade, culottes, box-shaped dresses and go-go boots were in style.
Mary Quant invented the mini skirt. Jackie Kennedy made the french manicure and the fake eyelashes. Greens, shimmery and Blue eye shadow were really popular. Fake eylelashes were used a lot, and hairstlyer were a bunch of different styles and lengths.

Stonewall Riots

The Stonewall riots was a violent demonstration against a police raid on June 28, 1969 in Greenwich Village, New York City, at the Stonewall Inn. It was the first time that Gay's and Lesbians fought back against the government. It marked the beginning of the Gay Rights Movement all around the world. African American Civil Rights Movement, Counterculture of the 1960s, and Antiwar Demonstrations are some other social movements that happened in the 1960s. Only a few places were open to gay people in the 1950s and the 1960s. The places that often allowed gays were bars, but the bar owners and manargers mostly weren't gay.

At the time the Stonewall Inn was owned by the Mafia. It was popular to the gay community such as: hustlers, effeminate young men, transvestites, and homless youth. The raids that the police did in bars during the 1960s were routine. Officers quickly lost control of the situation at the Stonewall Inn. For several nights after the raid at Stonewall Inn were protests. People who lived in the city started activist groups to concentrate on finding places for gays and lesbians to be open about their sexual orientation without having to be afraid of getting arrested.

About six months after the riots two gay activist organizations were formed in New York. Ggay rights organizations were founded across the U.S. and the world, within a few years. To this day Gay Pride events are are held throughout the world around the end of June to mark the Stonewall Riots.

Psychedelic Drugs and Their Effect on Society

During the 1960s recreational drug use increased rapidly. LSD, Marijuana and Mescaline were used to expand conciousness and "find ectasy and revelation within". The use of psychedelic drugs was popularized by slogans such as "Turn on, Tune in, Drop out" by Timothy Leary. Hippies often used the drugs to practice peace and love. These drugs were also the fuel for such events like Woodstock and Summer of Love.

In 1959 Ken Kesey volunteered for a CIA-financed project named Project MKULTRA, where under supervision people were examined using hallucigenic drugs. Later, in the mid-1960's Ken started throwing parties called "Acid Tests" where strobe lights, black lights and fluorescent paint intensified the effects of the LSD everyone was on. These parties were noted in Allen Ginsberg's poetry as well as Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.

A lot of bands were also known for their drug use, such as, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Janis Joplin and many more.

Drugs were used widely across the country by young people, old people, hippies and non hippies. Psychedelic Drugs will always be remembered for its huge influence on music and art as well as being a major component for counter culture during this decade.

Batman was a american television series based on a comic book. It aired on ABC which stands for American Broadcasting Company, the show was on ABC for two and a half seasons from January 2, 1966 to March 4, 1968. Around the 1960's playboy club in chicago was playing the batman series (batman, batman and robin) on saturday nights. Batman became very known and popular as the party goers would cheer the duo and some of the people would "boo" and "hiss" at the evil villians. Van Udoff is one of the batman fans since his childhood attended the playboy club and was suprised to see how many people enjoyed the batman show.

Yale Udoff had negotiations with CBS about showing the series on 20th Centry fox. CBS wrote a paper that allows batman to show on that certain channel. 20th Centry Fox signed, who passed the paper on torwards William Dozier who is a producer. ABC wanted to expect a hip and fun yet adventuring show. Pushing the show to January 1966 and over all the signing and accepting the batman show became a sucess. Turning the batman show into its first movie their was four actors who tried out and they were Adam West, Burt Ward, Lyle Waggoner, and Peter Deyell. By winning the huge roll was West and Ward for the main roles in batman.

In 1962, ATT&T sent the first communication satellite into orbit. The satilite named telstar floated 500 to 3,500 miles above the earth. Telestar recieved faint television signals and it had allowed television audiences in the U.S to get european signals and european signals and europe to recieve U.S signals. The satillites changed the art of communication technology.

February 20, 1962 John Glenn was the first american to circle around the earth in the spacecraft called "friendship". John orbited three times around earth in less then five hours, while other americans on earth sat and watched their televisions watching john. The june 1965 astronaunt Edward White was the first american to walk in space for twenty-two mintues, Edward floated in space attached by a cord to the gemmini four capsule.

Famous Assassinations in the 60's

JOHN F. KENNEDY

Lee Harvey Oswald Assassinated John F Kennedy November 22, 1963, according to the report of Warren Commission.
JFK was shot twice in his car during a parade in Dallas, Texas.
First shot was in his neck, he was still living at the time. Second shot was in the back of his head, so says the autopsy.

I don't doubt that he wasn't shot it's obvious he was, but as it shows in the recording his face was torn off, and the autopsy picture they let the public view shows his face completely intact... Mrs. Kennedy told news reporters later on that when she climbed over the back of the car it was to get a piece of JFK's blown off piece of head.

What was interesting is that they didn't show they clip of JFK's assassination until 15 years later, and the version was in black and white so it wasn't very visible.
some people say that the clip has been tampered with.

People have come up with many conspiracies, some are believable, most are pointless idiotic remarks.

MALCOLM X

On February 21, 1965, Malcolm X was shot to death as he delivered his speech to the Afro_American Unity in Manhattan's Audobon Ballroom. It was said a disturbance broke out into the crowd of 400 or so people, They heard a man yell "Nigger! Get your hand outta my pocket!" and as Malcolm X's bodyguards went to stop the scene a man rushed up towards Malcolm shooting him in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun, then two different men came up and shot him 16 times. People in the crowd actually caught one of he assassins and beat him.

The one caught was a Black Muslim,Talmadge Hayer also known as Thomas Hagan.
They identified two more suspects as Norman 3X Butler and Thomas 15X Johnson, also members of the Nation of Islam.

This was not much of a surprise, Malcolm had been getting threats before on how someone was going to kill him " He is as good as dead" said an anonymous man on the phone to Malcolm's wife. His house was even burned down, luckily his family survived.

ROBERT F KENNEDY

He died 26 hours after the shooting due to shot with no exit wounds. Sirhan B. Sirhan replied only with ,I did it for my country", while angry crowds shouted back, " Kill him, Lynch Kill him!".
